Phonemail FAQ's

1. I was trying to access my phonemail and I inadvertently hit the wrong key while entering my password. When I tried again using what I know to be the correct password I was told that my mailbox was protected and that I needed to contact my system administrator. Why was I locked out after just one bad password attempt?

A. The system is unique in that the bad password provision works in a cumulative manner. The system gives each user 9 attempts to enter the proper password. But whereas some systems may reset back to 0 once the mailbox has been entered. This system will keep in memory the previous failed attempts. After 9 failed attempts, even if over a prolonged period of time, the system becomes protected and the only way to have the mailbox unprotected is to call telecommunications @ ext.5757 and have the mailbox reset.

2. Is there a way to skip past a subscriber's personal greeting in order to leave them a message?

A. Yes. By pressing the "1" key the system skips the greeting and plays a tone that indicates that the caller may leave a message.

3. Can I replay just the last few seconds of my own messages so as not to have to listen to the entire message just to catch a small portion of needed information?

A. In the instance of replaying only vital information, press the "7" key followed by the "8" key. This action will reply the previous 8 seconds which in most cases is sufficient time to catch the important portion of the message.

4. While listening to an important message from someone who speaks very quietly, is there a way to increase the volume of that message so it can be heard?

A. There are controls that can be used while listening to messages that do a number of functions. In order to increase or decrease the volume of the message, press "5" until the volume increases sufficiently and press "8" to lower the volume in the event that the sound is uncomfortably high. Messages may also be sped up or slowed down. To do so, simply press "9" to play a message faster or press "7" to slow a message down.
